March 1, 2024, marks the start of the registration period for WU’s three bachelor’s programs: Business and Economics (BBE), Business, Economics and Social Sciences (WISO), and Business Law (WIRE). If the number of valid registrations exceeds the number of available student places by the relevant cutoff date, selection procedures will be launched for the respective programs. On March 8, WU will host an Open Day event, where everyone interested in studying at WU has the opportunity to find out more about what the university has to offer.

Over the past few years, WU’s degree programs have always attracted so much interest that entrance exams had to be held every year. Last year even marked an all-time high of almost 9,000 applications. Rector Rupert Sausgruber is hopeful that WU will see strong interest from prospective students again in 2024. He says, “We’re very pleased to see that WU is so popular with prospective students. For us, this is a wonderful confirmation of the high quality standards and the high visibility of WU’s degree programs, both in Austria and internationally.” The following numbers of student places are available in WU’s bachelor’s programs in the academic year 2024/25: 240 for the English-taught Business and Economics program, 2,703 for the German-taught Business, Economics and Social Sciences program, and 870 for the German-taught Business Law program.

Multi-step selection procedure begins with online registration and OSA test

Prospective students have to register online for the program of their choice by May 22 (WISO and BBE) or June 3 (WIRE). Whether a selection procedure has to be held is determined after the end of the registration period. If a selection procedure is carried out, applicants will have to complete the online self-assessment (OSA) test for the program of their choice by June 3 (BBE and WISO) or June 12 (WIRE). The OSA test includes questions about the applicants’ expectations, interests, and program-specific skills.

Entrance exams

If the number of applicants still exceeds the number of available places after the OSA test, the second phase of the selection procedure is launched. For the Business and Economics program, an online entrance exam will be held on June 18. This saves international applicants the trouble of having to travel to Vienna. An online exam will also be held for the Business, Economics and Social Sciences program on July 2. For the Bachelor’s Program in Business Law, an in-person entrance exam will be held on Campus WU on July 9. Details on the three entrance exams will be posted on the respective program web pages.

No applications accepted after the deadline

All prospective students interested in starting one of the German-taught programs either in the 2024/25 winter semester or the 2025 summer semester have to register online this spring. This also applies to prospective students who still have to complete their compulsory military service or alternative civilian service and intend to start their bachelor’s program in the 2025 summer semester. For applicants interested in the BBE program, it will only be possible to start the program in the winter semester. Late applications cannot be accepted for any of the programs, and it will not be possible to take the OSA test at a later date.
